Future Continuous Tense
Di
dalam The Past Future Continuous
Tense terdapat kata past
(= lampau), future (=masa
mendatang), dan continuous
(sedang/lagi). Hal ini dimaksudkan bukan untuk membingungkan Anda
terhadap fungsi atau penggunaannya nanti. Dari kata-kata tersebut tenses ini untuk menyatakan
peristiwa yang nanti sedang berlangsung dan waktu kejadiannya di masa
lampau. Berbeda dengan rekannya The
Future Continuous Tense yang situasinya tengah berlangsung di
masa depan (lihat penjelasan No. 10), pada The Past Future Continuous Tense
situasinya akan tengah berlangsung di masa lalu.
Formasi kalimat tenses ini tersusun atas subyek diikuti kata kerja bantu would atau should, be, dan kata kerja (present participle) plus ing. Bentuk kalimat negatifnya dengan menambahkan kata not setelah kata kerja bantu (would not = wouldn't, should not = shouldn't) dan interogatifnya dengan menempatkan kata kerja bantu tersebut di depan subyek, seperti terlihat di bawah ini.
Formasi kalimat tenses ini tersusun atas subyek diikuti kata kerja bantu would atau should, be, dan kata kerja (present participle) plus ing. Bentuk kalimat negatifnya dengan menambahkan kata not setelah kata kerja bantu (would not = wouldn't, should not = shouldn't) dan interogatifnya dengan menempatkan kata kerja bantu tersebut di depan subyek, seperti terlihat di bawah ini.

i. The Past Future Continuous Tense digunakan untuk menyatakan
suatu tindakan atau peristiwa yang telah direncanakan akan
dilakukan atau berlangsung di masa lalu.
- It was 9:30 a.m. The students were sitting in their classroom at that moment. They were listening to a tape. That time the next day they would be sitting in the cinema. They would be watching a film. On Saturday there was no class. So on Saturday they would not be sitting in the cinema. They would be doing other things. Bill would be playing tennis. Ann would be shopping. George would still be having breakfast.
- We should be going ti Dublin.
- I would be giving you the test for these materials.
- She would be living in a few days.
sedang berlangsung pada waktu lampau.
- I should be taking an examination on Saturday last month.
- You would be giving me lots of money in January last year.
- Umar would be playing the piano at one o'clock yesterday.

sumber referensi lengkap bagi mereka yang ingin menguasai dan
memperdalam keenam belas tenses
